MANCHESTER — Speed and alcohol contributed to a crash early Wednesday morning that killed a Wilton man, police said.
Joshua Lavine, 31, was killed when the car he was driving struck a rock, went airborne, hit trees 20 feet off the ground and flipped over on Granite Hill Road, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.
Passenger William Decastro, 62, of Chesterville, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and was in good condition Wednesday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The crash was reported around midnight. Neither man was wearing a seat belt and both had been drinking, McCausland said.
He said Lavine had been driving the 2003 Hyundai Sonata with a suspended license and had a number of violations, including operating after suspension and failure to pay fines.
