WINDHAM, Maine (AP) — Police say a high school student who was named Maine’s top senior football player last fall is facing charges in Windham for allegedly flattening the tires on some school buses.

Police said they discovered some valve stems on school bus tires had been jammed open at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the school district’s bus garage. Police say they found 18-year-old Jack Mallis and 18-year-old Adam Szklany hiding nearby.

Mallis in January was awarded the James J. Fitzpatrick Trophy, which is given to the top senior high school football player in Maine. Szklany played on the basketball team.

The pair was charged with criminal mischief and released. The tires were re-inflated and the bus schedule was not interrupted Tuesday.
