WINTHROP — The Winthrop Green Committee has partnered with Winthrop High School, Winthrop Middle School and several local businesses to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with a series of environmentally-related events . All events are free and free childcare will be provided at all events.
Events will include:
Green on the Screen: Winthrop’s Earth Week Film Festival from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Winthrop Performing Arts Center at Winthrop High School, Saturday, April 17, “The 11th Hour”; Monday, April 19, “Energy Crossroads”; Wednesday, April 21, “Message in the Waves”; Thursday, April 22, “Power of Community”; Friday, April 23, “Food, Inc.”
Winthrop Community Lawn Sale, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, on Mechanic Street in the large parking lot behind the Winthrop Commerce Center and the old post office.
All residents of Winthrop may have up to three free sales tables. All proceeds go to sellers. A Salvation Army will take away any unsold, unwanted items. It will be held rain or shine. Preregistration is necessary. To register, call Monika Riney at 624-2844.
There will also be a number of evening Do-It-Yourself workshops, a formal groundbreaking at the new, organic community garden, the Winthrop Community Garden at Annabessacook, and a local foods dinner.
