Wisdom Center announces matching challenge grant

LEWISTON — An anonymous donor has issued a matching challenge to benefit the Center for Wisdom’s Women, a local drop-in center for women, formerly known as Wisdom’s Center. The center is currently seeking individuals or groups to sponsor the participation of one woman at $1 a day ($20 a month). The donor has offered to match the next 25 sponsors who pay in full for one year, $240.

The center’s goal is to reach 100 sponsors by the end of the fiscal year, July 1. Currently, 25 sponsors have pledged support. In addition, the center recently received major gifts of $10,000 from the Daughters of Wisdom who founded the center in 1999, and $10,000 from the Sisters of Charity.

These and other donations, along with the goal of 100 sponsors will enable the center to meet their operating budget for the year.

More information about the fundraising campaign and the matching challenge is available at www.wisdomswomen.org. Checks can be written to Trinity Church/Wisdom and sent to: The Center for Wisdom’s Women, P.O. Box 1016, Lewiston, ME 04240.

The center functions as a collaborative of women who work to build community for the purpose of bettering and enriching their lives. The center offers warm hospitality, compassionate listening, personal and spiritual guidance that is respectful of all faith traditions, assistance in accessing local resources to meet needs and encouragement toward healthy life choices.

Through support groups, activities and programs, women have the chance to meet and network with others, build friendships and support each other in their daily struggles.

Funding for the center has been received from the Maine Community Foundation, the Daughters of Wisdom, the Sisters of Charity, Concordia Partners and a private family foundation along with many individual gifts.
