Woman charged with robbery

GRAY – Police arrested a 28-year-old woman Wednesday a day after a robbery at the Big Apple on Portland Road.

Bethany H. Storey, 28, described as being a transient, was arrested by Cumberland County Sheriff’s investigators on a charge of robbery.

Police said at about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, a woman wearing a mask walked into the Big Apple and demanded money from the store clerk. Although no weapon was displayed, police said the clerk fled from the store instead of complying with the demand.

The suspect then walked around the counter and grabbed less than $100 from the cash register, police said. She left the store and was last seen driving south on Portland Road in a white sedan.

Sheriff’s officials investigating the heist were led to Storey as the suspect and she was arrested. It was not immediately clear where the arrest took place.

Story was being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland Wednesday night where bail was set at $5,000 cash.
