LEWISTON — The February programs at The Center for Wisdom’s Women include the special presentation on the history of the Healy Terrace that was snowed out in January. Originally an orphanage, the building has recently been renovated and is now low income senior housing. On March 29 at 10 a.m., Marguerite Stapleton will share stories and photos from her research about the work that the Sisters of Charity created and ran in Lewiston, one of which was an orphanage in the building.
The monthly Wise Woman Cooking Club will meet on Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. with Denise Dill from the Nutrition Center.
Groups for personal nurture include “Wisdom Circle” on Feb. 7 and 21 at 1 p.m. with Sarah Wood from the Sexual Assault Crisis Center facilitating, and “Inner Spirit” with Pam Beliveau on Feb. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. The SARK group will meet on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. with a focus on building self esteem and nurturing creativity.
The Writers Workshop meets weekly on Monday mornings at 10. A weekly Al-Anon group for women meets on Wednesdays at 12:15. For anyone who struggles with a loved one’s addiction, Lise Pellitier will lead a discussion about co-dependency on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
Each February, the center hosts a special thank you luncheon for all their volunteers. This year’s event will be held at noon on Valentines Day. All those who volunteered in 2011 are invited to attend. Last year volunteers at the center worked 657 times, logging 2014 hours.
Student nurses are on site each Thursday morning for weekly health and wellness checks. An intern from Tri County Mental Health is available for conversations on Wednesday mornings. Other regular programs include a writing workshop, poetry lunch and various arts and crafts. The monthly Bingo is set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 21. Personal hygiene items are available monthly upon request at no charge.
The center opens at 9 a.m. each weekday, and closes at 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, at noon on Wednesday and Friday. The center will be closed for the Presidents’ Day holiday on Feb. 20 and will close for snow if local schools are closed. All women are welcome and programs are offered free of charge.
