LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a local drop-in center for women, formerly known as Wisdom’s Center, announces its programs for April, including two special events and new resources focused on women’s health.
On Friday, April 2, the center will host an Easter High Tea. Preparations will begin at 9:30 a.m., with tea throughout the morning starting at 10. Information about tea rituals from around the world will be shared. Tea and traditional British tea snacks will be served along with some Easter goodies. Bring a fancy tea cup or two if possible.
On Wednesday, April 14, the series called “Tea, Talk and Travel” will focus on Haiti. The Rt. Rev. Chilton Knudsen, retired Episcopal Bishop of Maine, will be the speaker. Knudsen has dedicated much of her retirement to mission work in and for the people of Haiti, through the Anglican diocese there.
She travels to Haiti regularly and while in the U.S. she teaches about Haiti and raises funds for projects there. Knudsen will share stories and pictures, and a typical Haitian meal of rice and beans will be served.
As part of its series on “Wisdom for Your Life” and in a commitment to encourage better health, the center will host several programs on women’s health concerns. WMCA Health Services will begin staffing monthly one-on-one conversations about women’s reproductive health. Weight checks and health tips will be available twice monthly, as well as support for healthy eating on a budget with Denise Dill from the Nutrition Center.
A complete calendar for these and other regular small groups, activities and workshops, including one on money management by the Community Credit Union, can be found at www.wisdomswomen.org. All programs and groups are scheduled each weekday at 10 a.m. and at 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All events are free. No registration is needed.
Funding for the center has been received from the Maine Community Foundation, the Daughters of Wisdom, the Sisters of Charity, Concordia Partners and a private family foundation along with many individual gifts.
Checks can be written to Trinity Church/Wisdom and sent to the Center for Wisdom’s Women at PO Box 1016, Lewiston.
