World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is a global day set aside to call attention to the impact of tobacco use and to make people aware of the value of reducing tobacco use and dependence. World Not Tobacco Day is May 31!

At Lewiston High School, students in Youth 2 Youth have been very busy preparing for WNT Day! Youth 2 Youth is a group sponsored by Healthy Androscoggin, and works hard to bring education and programming about the dangers of tobacco, to the youth of Lewiston. This year, Y2Y is again making “support ribbons” for any interested Lewiston High School students and staff. These ribbons are brown and bear a small person/doll, symbolizing the many people effected by tobacco use. Every year, tobacco kills 3.5 million people around the world. In other words, about 10,000 people around the world die from tobacco every day. One million of these deaths currently occur in developing countries.

Y2Y at Lewiston High School is represented by Nathalie Dupuis, Bernie Urban, Bobby Morin, Kristin Leifester and Becky McAllister. Vicky Wiegman is the advisor. For more information, feel free to contact Vicky Wiegman at 795-4190 ext. 230.
