Biddy Basketall registrations
AUBURN — Registration is open for the 47th year of Auburn-Lewiston YMCA Biddy Basketball.
The YMCA Co-ed Biddy Basketball League serves Auburn, Lewiston, and the surrounding communities by affording boys and girls in grades 1–6 an opportunity to involve themselves in an organized basketball program.
It is designed to instruct the basic fundamentals of basketball and to develop individual skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting within a team atmosphere. The Biddy Basketball League offers three divisions. New this year to the league is our Rookies Division, followed by our Pee Wee and Junior Divisions. Each division will conduct a “player evaluation” and draft, recognizing individual talent levels in order to provide the best possible scenario for equal play among teams.
Rookies Division (boys and girls in grades 1-2) player evaluation and draft will be held on Thursday Oct. 30 at the Y. First-graders meet at 5:15 p.m. and second-graders at 6:30 p.m. Teams hold practice once a week, and games are played Sunday mornings at the Y. The season begins the week of Nov. 3rd with practices, and the season comes to a close Feb. 15, 2015.
Pee Wee Division (boys and girls in grades 3-4) player evaluation and draft will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Edward Little High School. Pee Wee teams hold practice once a week, and games are played Saturday afternoons at the Y. The season begins the week of Nov. 3 with practices and comes to a close Feb. 14, 2015.
Junior Division (boys and girls in grades 5-6) player evaluation and draft will be held on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at Edward Little High School. Junior teams hold practice once a week and games are played at the Y on Saturday mornings. The regular season begins the week of Nov. 3 with practices, and ends Feb. 14, 2015.
Cost for each of the three divisions: $45 for members and $75 for non-members. Financial assistance is available for qualifying families, as no one is turned away for the inability to pay. Everyone that registers by Wednesday Oct. 29 will be placed on a team.
There also is a Skills & Drills program for Pre-K and Kindergarten. This is an instructional program for boys and girls who are learning the game of basketball. Players will be introduced to the basic skills, fundamentals and rules through skills, drills and interactive games. Session One (Pre-K): Mondays 4:15-5:00 p.m. from Oct. 20 to Dec. 8; Session Two (K): Tuesdays 4:15-5:00 p.m. from Oct. 21 to Dec. 9.
As a volunteer organization, the Y needs coaches, program assistants, and officials. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Chris Shea at [email protected] For more program information stop by the YMCA at 62 Turner Street in Auburn, call the front desk at 795-4095, or visit www.alymca.org.
