YMCA announces September programs


AUBURN — The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston has announced its September programs for children and adults. All programs take place at 62 Turner St. in Auburn, with the exception of gymnastics and field hockey.

Weigh to Go: Shape up and slim down with certified Y trainers and nutritionists. This eight-week program offers support and education to achieve weight loss goals. Ages 18 and older. Registration opens Sept. 21, program begins Oct. 7.

Gymnastics: For children 3 1/2 to teenagers. Registration opens Aug. 31 and sessions begin Sept. 14.

Field Hockey: For girls kindergarten through eighth grade. The class will begin in early September. Locations and practice times TBA. Contact Chris Shea at 207-795-4095.

Fall Dance Classes: Nationally-acclaimed dancer Jessica Trammel offers ballet, jazz, jazz funk and tumbling for children and adults. Daily drop-in rates are available. Registration will open Aug. 31. Session will run Sept. 14 to Dec. 18.

Youth Swim Lessons: This seven-week session is for infants through age 12. Multiple class times are available. Session will begin Sept. 14.

Home School Exercise: Home-schooling families can stay active while making new friends. For ages 4 to 15. The class will run Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 31 to October 21.

Lunch & Learn: “Get Out, Get Active, Get Connected” with the Maine Alzheimer’s Association. The session will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Tabata: New to the group exercise rotation, Tabata is a high-intensity interval workout featuring elements of strength and cardio. The class will be held Wednesdays at noon, beginning Sept. 14.

Yoga for Athletes: Athletes enhance their performance in multiple sports with this tailored yoga program. The class will be held Mondays at 5:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 14.

Pilates/Barre: Get a long and lean dancer look with this full-body workout. The class will be held Mondays at noon, beginning Sept. 14.

Y Wellness Walkers: This year-round social walking group explores local parks and neighborhoods. The group will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 14.

Open Family Swim: For current Y members. The class will meet on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required for most events and programs. Some fees apply, and financial assistance is available for qualifying individuals and families.
