YMCA to launch Group Power program

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA will launch the latest segment of its new program, Group Power, on Wednesday, June 7, with four free classes open to members and nonmembers.

The latest segment, spring ’06, will feature mew music, new exercises and new programming as staff continues to develop the only nationally certified program in Maine and New Hampshire.

Group Power is a 60-minute barbell program that strengthens major muscles in a motivating group environment with music and nationally certified instructors. With simple, athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels.

“One of the main reasons we went with Group Power is that every three months we will be launching a fresh and exciting new set of classes,” said YMCA health and fitness director Doug McFarland. “This keeps all of our instructors and participants motivated and makes our program fresh and exciting. Group Power is a challenging yet achievable program that is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels.”

Participants must register by Tuesday, June 6, for the Wednesday classes by stopping by the YMCA or calling 795-4095. The class times on June 7 will be 9 to 10:30 a.m., noon to 1:30 p.m., 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The YMCA offers 10 one-hour Group Power classes each week along with more than 25 other exercise classes.
