Young CLT thespians to stage ‘Cinderella, Jr.’

AUBURN – Community Little Theatre’s summer youth workshop will present the Rodgers and Hammerstein show “Cinderella, Jr.” This junior version of “Cinderella,” designed for prehigh-school performers, retells the familiar fairy tale of a young, disadvantaged girl who finds her prince when she decides to stop moping around at home and attends the royal ball – with help from her godmother and some glass slippers.

Featured are such musical numbers as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” “Impossible,” and “The Prince is Giving a Ball.”

The show, directed by Linda Britt, is the culmination of weeks of work by the young thespians. Choreographer Mariah Perry, who has a bachelor of arts degree in dance from Dean College, and vocal director Danielle Sabine, a senior music education major at the University of Southern Maine, assisted by Chelsea Vincent and Colin Britt, have spent many hours teaching intricate dance moves and melodies to the young performers.

Gabrielle Smith, 10, of Mechanic Falls, plays Cinderella. Her prince is Drew Masse, 10, of Greene. Cinderella’s stepsisters are portrayed by Olivia Mayo of Minot and Kristin Cornelio of Auburn. India Lucas of Oxford plays the stepmother, and Ally Laverdiere of Turner is Cinderella’s godmother. The queen and king are played by Caela Waite of Turner and John Hutton of Greene. Also featured are Emily Burke, 7, as the herald and Madison Leslie, 7, as the chef.

Rounding out the cast as townspeople, palace staff, horses, and ball guests are Grace Adkins, Jayra Bray, Tyler Cochrane, Alexis Difillipo, Bella Doucette-St. Onge, Desiree Dunn, Kylie Fuller, Nicole Keaney, Elizabeth LaRochelle, Kiera McArthur, Olivia Norton, Amanda Rivas, Emily Verreault, Emma Vierling, and Krissy Waite.

Also working on the production are Marissa Jalbert, stage manager and set designer; Thalia Ravlin, assistant to the director; Karen McArthur and Barbara Mathey, costumers; Stan Spilecki, light designer; and Jim Raymond, sound designer.

“Cinderella, Jr.” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center on Academy Street. Tickets, $10, may be reserved by calling 783-0958, or by logging on to
