Young fiddler, band to perform at Sawyer

GREENE – Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection will entertain at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Sawyer Memorial. Admission is free, and doors open one hour before the shows.

Brown developed an interest in music at an early age. At 7, she was competing in fiddle contests with kids twice her age. At age 9, she was traveling throughout New England, Canada and Louisiana with the Maine French Fiddlers.

For the past five years, Brown has been performing as a special guest with Mac McHale and the Old-Time Radio Gang. She has her own bluegrass band, Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection, which performs all over New England.

Brown was a member of the Bates College “Fighting Bobcats” Orchestra for five years and was a member of the Maine All-State Music Festival for two years. She has won fiddle contests throughout New England and Canada.

In 2003 she was awarded Junior Female Entertainer of the Year by the Maine Country Music Association. Brown has helped bring music into elementary schools by holding workshops and performing.

Brown has produced and released three CDs. Her third CD, “Imagine That,” features a selection of fiddle tunes and vocals.
