LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer a new empowerment group for girls in ninth grade.
The program will be a safe space for girls to talk about important issues and will offer positive group activities and projects, as well as snacks and tea.
The group will be facilitated by Bates students and YWCA staff.
Discussion topics may include media and body image, moving beyond cliques, gender equality, relationships and sexuality, peer pressure, race relations and social action, as well as topics decided upon by the group.
The first session of the Girls Empowerment Group will meet from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. The group will meet weekly on Tuesdays and continue through May. Drop-ins are welcome.
After the first meeting attended, girls will be given permission slips for the program. The group is free and each girl will receive a YWCA membership to swim for free.
