LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer local youngsters a Winter Carnival Camp during February school break. The camp is being offered from Monday, Feb. 20, through Friday, Feb. 24. Hours of the camp are from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and extended care is available for an additional fee. The camp is designed for ages 5 to 12. The cost of the camp is $138 per child for the week and includes snacks daily. Campers are asked to bring their own bagged lunch, a swimsuit, towel and winter outerwear with them each day.
“We have had great fun planning our Winter Carnival Camp,” said Kathy Durgin-Leighton, executive director of the YWCA. “The camp gives kids a chance to really explore the opportunities and adventures of winter in Maine.”
The camp line-up includes a balance of warm, indoor activities and exciting, outdoor adventures. With snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snow painting, snow sculptures and sledding, kids will have multiple chances to try a new sport and explore their creative side. Campers will also have an opportunity to make their own snow cones and ice cream sundaes, try out some warm winter knitting and, of course, take advantage of the indoor, heated pool.
Free swim and Magic Y-World will be available to all campers. Lifeguards are on deck of the pool at all times and floatation devices are available for those that need them.
“We are pleased to be able to offer campers a chance to try out our brand new Xbox Kinnect consoles and large screen televisions for some indoor skiing and other sports,” said Durgin-Leighton. “Our current child care children give the new games big thumbs up.”
Space in the Winter Carnival Camp is limited. Reservations can be made by calling 795-4050. All camp activities will take place on the YWCA campus at 130 East Ave. Learn more about the YWCA at www.ywcamaine.org or on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/YWCAMaine.
