LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will host an Adopt-a-Daughter program in support of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 22.

According to the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation, the day offers millions of young people around the country a first-hand view of the many career opportunities available in their futures. The YWCA shares a similar mission in that they offer programs which empower women and girls.

“We look forward to expanding the future opportunities for our community’s daughters,” said Kayt DeMerchant, director of marketing. “By adopting daughters for the day we ensure that more than just our own daughters have the ability to participate in the day’s events and access mentoring opportunities.”

The program will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 22. The YWCA will set up mentors in the areas of marketing, finance, child care, maintenance, aquatics, administration or customer service, whichever aligns with the interests of the participating girl. The program will be available for girls age 8 to 12.
