FARMINGTON The UMF Art Gallery presents the work of Maizie Argondizza, University of Maine at Farmington alumna of the class of 1954. Her unique portrayal of nature’s beauty will be on exhibit Monday, Aug. 22 through Thursday, Sept 1.  There will be an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m., on Sept. 1. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Since her retirement from directing the Student Teaching Program at the University of Southern Maine, Argondizza has immersed herself in the study of natural and human landscapes in bold watercolors and insightful, intricate pen-and-ink drawings. Her intense observations of common flowers become portraits, and her slightly idiosyncratic perspectives on the landscape reveal subtle strangeness.

Currently a winter resident of Fort Myers, Florida, she began studying watercolor in Maine with artist Polly Blythe Goss and is now a member of the Fort Myers Art League.

This exhibit is sponsored by the UMF Department of Sound, Performance and Visual Inquiry.

The UMF Art Gallery is located at 246 Main St. in Farmington, behind the UMF Admissions Office. Gallery hours for this exhibition are daily noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment. FMI or to make an appointment please contact Sarah Maline, UMF Art Gallery director, at maline@maine.edu or 207-778-1062
