AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine state police say a marijuana plot in Washington County yielded nearly 3,000 marijuana plants with a street value of more than $8 million. But it wasn’t a record.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says largest marijuana crop in Maine was more than 4,000 plants found growing in Aroostook County in the early 1990s.

The final plant count in Washington County was 2,943. More than 60 state, county and federal law enforcement officers were used to harvest the crop.

The site, discovered last month, was in an unorganized township about 10 miles off Route 9 in Wesley. It covers several square miles.
