On Friday, May 15, the Juke Joint Devils will perform at Guthries in Lewiston, 115 Middle St., Lewiston. The Juke Joint Devils play an energetic, swinging blues that isn’t heard much these days. It’s a foot-stomping, hip-shaking genre that harkens back to that swampy, riffy, rocky sound people heard it noisy bars.  The band features International Blues Challenge finalists Tommy O’Connell on harp and vocals and Sean Bowman standup bass, Johnny Moran on drums, and with Stefan Iris on guitar. The show begins at 8 p.m.; there is no cover charge. FMI call 376-3344.

At Guthries Independent Theater, also on Friday, Maine Microcinema will host the  Maine premiere of Auburn native Taylor MacIntosh’s “Swift River.”  The film which examines a man and his dog as they isolate themselves from the rest of the world in hopes of mining gold on a river in Maine. ” The film is a lesson for me, as well as the audience, on the effects of liminal space, conscious isolation-marginalization and lack of human connection, as well as silence and gold-fever on a single male human being,” MacIntosh said.  The theater is located at 22 Park St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8:15 p.m. Tickets at $8.
