FARMINGTON — Sable Strout will perform at Nordica Day at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Nordica Auditorium in Merrill Hall on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Strout’s concert will be an “All-American Summer Serenade” featuring many well-known American composers of opera and Broadway musicals. Her accompanist is Kellie Moody.

Strout, of Richmond, is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine voice performance program where she studied with Ellen Chickering, teacher of  many previous Nordica scholarship winners. While at USM she performed operatic roles such as Prince Orofsky (“Die Flerdermaus”), Hansel (“Hansel and Gretel”), Amahl, Elizabeth Proctor (“The Crucible”) and Iolanthe. She was part of the chorus in three PortOpera summer productions and in her fourth summer played the role of the Page in Rigoletto.

Nordica Day, named after famed opera diva Lillian Nordica, is always celebrated Aug. 17, the day in 1911 the star performed in her hometown of Farmington to an overflow audience in the auditorium that now bears her name. The celebration includes a concert featuring the winner of the Nordica Scholarship, awarded annually to an outstanding singer from Maine.

The event is a gift to the community from the Nordica Memorial Association, although donations are accepted. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
