LEWISTON — There will be dancing aplenty on Friday, June 4, when The Awesome fills the newly renovated cabaret-style venue at the Franco-American Heritage Center with ’80s hit tunes.

Doors to Heritage Hall on the ground floor of the center will open at 7 p.m., with music beginning an hour later.

The venue, which has undergone a $500,000 floor-to-ceiling renovation, now has a dance floor, a full-service cash bar and a new blue-gray color scheme. Aluminum chairs and long, folding tables have been replaced with soft seats and round cabaret tables.

The Awesome, formed the winter of 2004, has a cache of more than 90 songs, covering artists from Duran Duran to Michael Jackson to Pat Benatar.

Since its first performance, the band has continued to grow in popularity, selling out clubs such as The Big Easy and Bubba’s Sulky Lounge. The band also plays at weddings, business parties and other professional functions.

Band members are Michael Taylor, vocals, guitar, keys, xylophone; Nate Soule, guitar and vocals; Jennywren Sanders, vocals; Stu Mahan, bass guitar; and DJ Moore, drums.

All are seasoned musicians from Portland and have been with several Maine bands, including Zion Train, BassBox, Daro, Boombazi, The Seen, The Royal Hammer, Nigel Hall, Lost Cause Desperados, Killer Queen, Who’s Pink, Chronic Funk, One Two Many and As Fast As.

Tickets, $10, may be purchased at the door, by calling the box office at 689-2000 or online at francoamericanheritage.org.
