MOUNT VERNON — A child with special needs is safe after a woman pulled the boy from a stream in Mount Vernon after he had wandered away from home.
Police said 57-year-old Patricia Stanton found the boy at about 6 a.m. on Monday morning. Stanton is the dean of students at Maranacook Community School in Readfield and was driving to work at the time. Police said Stanton pulled the boy from the water after watching him walk down an embankment.
Police declined to identify the child, who they said was unhurt. Police also declined to give the child’s age.
The boy’s mother was charged with a summons on Tuesday that charged her with endangering the welfare of a child. Police said they also notified the state Department of Health and Human Services.
