It seems to me that the problem in Lewiston/Auburn is the same old problem of misunderstanding. Let me explain.

When the mayor of Lewiston said what he said about the situation with the Somalis he meant one thing and it was interpreted another way.

Now, if a father corrects a son from doing something wrong is he correcting the problem or is he picking on the son? Does he hate his son because he corrects what the son is doing? Of course not.

If a father loves his son or daughter he will want to correct anything that will hurt his son or daughter.

Now follow me.

There is a difference between caring enough to correct a situation while you show care for the people you correct. You are not hating someone when you care enough to watch out for everyone involved.

So divide the correction from the people and you have the problem solved and self esteem intact.
