Good for Mainers to form a new alliance of health and environmental issues (Jan. 31)!
This cooperation will focus action on reducing use of mercury and in avoiding other future pollution, thus saving money from having to clean up later. It will combine energies on two of our most pressing issues.
Years ago, when I joined advocacy groups to eliminate lead from gasoline, industry officials said “”it can’t be done!”” Now, unleaded gasoline is commonplace, saving countless illnesses as well as environmental pollution.
And all hail to Republican U.S. Sen. Snowe for teaming up with Democrat Sen. Feinstein to submit legislation to require light trucks to meet the same improved fuel economy as passenger cars, helping save energy and money.
When we Americans set our focus to help we can move mountains!
