The Huskies set a new school scoring mark in the 21-4 drubbing.
EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies received goals from 11 players, including four apiece from sophomore Jonathan Gagne (Eliot, Maine), freshman Paul Dubiel (Billerica, Mass.), and sophomore Matt Butler (Barnstable, Mass.), en route to a 21-4 thrashing of the Emerson College Lions in the season opener for each squad on Monday afternoon.
USM got four goals apiece from sophomore Jonathan Gagne, freshman Paul Dubiel, and sophomore Matt Butler, The outcome was never in doubt as the Huskies raced to an 11-0 lead, before the Lions found the net in the waning moments of the first half. Southern Maine took an 11-1 advantage into the break. The 21 goals was a single-game school record for the third-year varsity program.
The only other Husky to enjoy a multiple-goal game was sophomore Sean Favreau of Sabattus, who struck for a pair. Southern Maine employed three goaltenders, with freshman Jeff Lamoureux (Walpole, Mass.) drawing the start and recording five saves and yielding a single goal through the first half. Sophomore Frank Leclair (York, Maine) turned aside three shots and surrendered two goals in the third quarter, before giving way to sophomore Mark Morissette (Wales, Maine), who made three saves and gave up a goal in the final frame.

Maine sweeps pair
OSCEOLA, Fla.– The University of Maine took two more games with a 6-0 shutout of Lafayette and a 3-2 win over Yale in extra innings.
Freshman Sarah Bennis of Pownal struck out seven to beat Lafayette and improve her record to 3-1. Jess Brady went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to spark the offense. Erin Provost smacked two hits while Amanda Stevens and Lauren Dulkis each had an RBI.
Brady came up big again later in the day, as her squeeze bunt scored Dana Grimm in the eighth inning to give the Black Bears the win over Yale. Taylor added an RBI single and pitcher Jenna Merchant (5-2) collected an RBI double.
Merchant (5-2) picked up eight strikeouts to notch the win.
