I find the recent rash of violent crimes against young children to be deplorable.

For example, a number of weeks ago three children in Texas were murdered. Having younger siblings myself, I cannot imagine them having to endure such a horrible fate. What would possess anyone to commit such a horrible act?

Let’s take a look around us. What do we see?

We see adults verbally, physically and mentally abusing children. Yet, these young children have no defense of their own.

After all, what is a 3-year-old to do when a parent is verbally swearing at her in the middle of the grocery store? Unfortunately, if bystanders get involved, the child is certainly to get the brunt of the parent’s anger when they leave the store.

No child deserves to be treated in this manner, regardless of their behavior.

Why should innocent lives be ruined by incompetent, neglectful and abusive adults?

Where are the laws protecting defenseless children?

Why are the penalties for crimes against children not more severe?
