PORTLAND-Sister Mary Daniel Sullivan, RSM (Rosalie Mary), 99, a woman of faith and action, died peacefully on Friday, April 4, at St. Joseph’s Manor.

She was educated in Lewiston/Auburn prior to her enrolling in the Queens Hospital School of Nursing, Portland, where she graduated in 1932.

Entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1934 gave her the opportunity to continue her nursing ministry at St. Joseph’s Convent and the Queens Hospital.

St. Ann’s Pleasant Point, Perry and St. Joseph’s Home for Elderly Women, Portland, also benefited from her love of nursing.

She was among the first staff to work at the newly constructed Mercy Hospital, Portland, where she had assumed the additional responsibility of Dietary Supervisor. Here she served 16 years, sharing her many talents in the areas of surgical, medical and dietary nursing.

She served at St. Joseph’s College, Standish, as dietician and campus nurse. She was the Administrator of Holy Innocents Home, Portland, and assisted in the transition of that service to a home care agency.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews to the third generation, as well as her Sisters in Religion.

She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel D. and Ellen M. MacDonald Sullivan; and siblings, Benjamin, Alexander, Marguerite, Annie and Kathleen.
