1906 – 2003

WEST PARIS – Nellie L. Whyte, 96, formerly of Dixfield for many years, died Saturday, April 5, at the Ledgeview Living Center, West Paris, where she had been a patient since 1994.

She was born in Norway on Nov. 20, 1906, the first-born child of Edwin and Emma Dunham Glines, and was christened on June 27, 1928 in the Norway Universalist Church in Norway.

She graduated from Norway High School in 1924 and Castine Normal School in 1926.

She married Robert M. Whyte of Byron on June 30, 1928.They lived in Byron and she taught at the Coos Canyon School, Roxbury Elementary School and Mexico Elementary School.

After the death of her husband on Feb. 6, 1966, and her retirement, she moved to Dixfield.

She enjoyed the schools and students, often tutoring in her home after retirement.She also enjoyed her visits to Prince Edward Island, had a real soft spot for animals of all kinds, and enjoyed good music.

She was a former member of Subordinate, Pamona, State and National Grange. She was a member of the Mt. Zircon Chapter O.E.S.

She is survived by three brothers, Robert Glines and his wife Beverly of Norway, Donald Glines his wife Vieno of South Paris, and Merle Glines and wife Marlene of South Paris; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband and son, Glendon Whyte.
