1922 – 2003

SOUTH PARIS – Henry G. Poland, 80, a resident of Turner, died Sunday evening, April 6, at the Maine Veterans Home where he had lived since 1997.

He was born in North Livermore on Sept. 15, 1922, the son of Daniel and Lucy Groves Poland Sr. and attended the schools of Livermore. On March 8, 1947 he married Arlene French in East Wilton.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a self-employed mechanic retiring in 1991. He had also worked for W.D. Matthews, Decoster Egg Farms and the Town of Turner.

He was a member of the Nezinscot Masonic Lodge 101 of Turner. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid reader of Uncle Henry’s.

He is survived by his wife of Turner; four sons and their wives, Daniel and Linda of Turner, Charles and Brenda of Turner, Wesley and Belinda of Turner, Douglas and Ruth of Livermore; six daughters and their husbands, Ellen Shaw of NH, Lucy and Robert Dawes of Milford, Eloise Poland of Lewiston, Muriel and Stuart Wright of Minot, Heidi and Mitchell Daigle of Dresden and Anna Bragdon of South Portland; a brother, Daniel Poland Jr. of Turner; two sisters, Helen Hendrick and Hazel Binette of Auburn; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Fred Poland.
