LEWISTON – Rumors swirled Wednesday after a lockdown at Farwell Elementary School.

Lewiston Police Sgt. Michael Whalen said he was aware that the school was secured for a period of time, but had limited information about what event had triggered the lockdown.

There were no shots fired, as one rumor suggested. “From what I’ve heard there was no weapon displayed at all,” he said.

Concerned parents called the police station Wednesday evening seeking specifics about the incident but Whalen said he could offer them no more than that.

Lewiston Superintendent Leon Levesque could not be reached for comment.

“I haven’t heard anything about it,” said Ronella Paradis, a school committee member. “Usually we do if there’s something to a rumor.”
