1934 – 2003

LEWISTON – Ellen May Arsenault, 69, of 205 Webberbrook Road, Oxford, passed away peacefully on April 9, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a long illness with her family at her side.

She was the wife of Ernest John Arsenault of Oxford. They had recently celebrated 50 years of marriage in January of this year.

She was born in North Turner on March 14, 1934, the daughter of Howard Lawrence and Bessie May Hosley Hopkins. She resided part of her life in Grafton, Mass., having moved there sometime during the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. She attended schools in Grafton. She also resided in Upton, and then to Milford, Mass., prior to her returning to Maine in November of 1991.

She was a former employee of T.J. Maxx of Milford and worked various other places during her life until becoming disabled due to her health. She enjoyed country music, crocheting, reading romance novels and sewing. When she was young she wanted to be a fashion designer.

She also enjoyed traveling when she could and was proudest of a trip to Nashville, Tenn., in 1984.

She enjoyed sharing stories of the family history and learning new things about her family heritage. Especially learning she was a Mayflower descendant through four family lines. She loved being with her family and friends, sharing many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed by all that loved her.

Besides her husband, she leaves a sister, Juanita Bryce of Norway; a son, Michael Arsenault of Norway; three daughters, Margaret Sullivan of Bethel, Cecilia Chambers of Lyman and Faith Ann Leduc of Oxford; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
