GORHAM – Junior pitcher Ryan Littleton tossed a five-hit complete game in the opener and senior pitcher Ryan Adams recorded his third save in the nightcap as Southern Maine swept Castleton State 4-1 and 4-2 in baseball action Saturday.

Senior outfielder Tyler Delorme tapped an RBI single in the first, and junior designated hitter Colin Loveless of South Paris made it 2-0 for the Huskies (10-10) with a two-out RBI single in the second. Southern Maine put the game out of reach with two insurance runs in the fifth on an RBI triple by senior second baseman Andy Lang and Delorme’s RBI groundout.

The Huskies put three runs on the board in the first inning of Game 2 when Loveless scored on an infield throwing error, junior Brian Marshall smacked an RBI double and Lang crossed the plate on a passed ball. The Spartans (6-6) picked up single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Maine sweeps Hartford

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Simon Williams smashed a three-run homer in the fifth inning of Game 1 to catapult Maine to a 3-1 win over Hartford, and Aaron Izaryk cracked a two-run homer early in Game 2 to send Maine to a 6-1 win and an America East sweep.

Mike MacDonald and Mike Collar each improved their record to 4-2 each in complete-game performances for the Black Bears (18-6).

MacDonald notched six strikeouts, while Collar whiffed nine in the nightcap.

Alain Picard and Jesse Carlton were the only repeat hitters for Maine on the day.

Picard cracked a triple, while Carlton pounded out a pair of doubles.

UMF, Husson split

BANGOR – Jason Harvey smacked a pair of doubles and two triples as Husson split a pair with the University of Maine at Farmington, winning the opener 4-3 before slipping to a 13-12 defeat in the nightcap.

The Beavers (4-5) took an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning of Game 1. However, the Braves (8-10) worked their way back with a run in the second and two in the fourth.

With the game even at 3 in the top of the ninth, Jason Harvey cracked the eventual game-winning single to assist pitcher Craig Harvey with his third win of the season.

Offense took center stage in Game 2 as the teams combined for 27 hits.

Jeff Casavant put the Beavers over the top with a three-run blast in the sixth, and John Rutkiewicz held Husson in the seventh for the mound win.

Tufts sweeps Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK – Tufts swept a twinbill from Bowdoin, 5-1 and 4-1.

Brian Shapiro drilled a pair of base hits, including a triple, to propel the Jumbos in the first contest. Evan Zupancic and Greg Hickey each added a pair of safeties in the win.

Jon Lee notched the complete-game win with a three-hitter including three strikeouts.

Hickey ripped a two-run homer in Game 2. Bowdoin’s Andrew Nichols took the loss.
