Church service

RUMFORD – The Rumford United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 in the sanctuary of the church. There will be an enactment of Jesus and his twelve disciples eating their last supper together. The parts will be portrayed by local men in the church. The pageant will be directed by Kathy Foster. This will be a worship time sponsored by the Methodists and the Mexico United Church of Christ. On Friday at 7 p.m. there will be a joint Good Friday worship service held at the Mexico church. Members of both choirs will participate. All are welcome.

Bottle drive

RUMFORD – Rumford Hospital’s WalkAmerica Team is sponsoring a bottle drive to raise money for the March of Dimes between noon and 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Pick up trucks will be parked in the driveway of the house on the corner of Essex and Franklin Streets, diagonally across Franklin from the hospital. People may drop off bottles during those hours or call Team Captain Allyson Heintz that day at 369-1175 for home or business pickup of large quantities.

Food sale

RUMFORD-Relay for Life team, Michael’s Angels will be holding a Food Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at the turn out at the Fall Hill. Lots of home baked items. All proceeds go to The Relay for Life, the signature event of the American Cancer Society. Advanced orders for cakes, whoopee pies or pies will be taken. Club supper

PERU-The Poodunck Peru Snowmobile Club will hope a membership party at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Welches Campground, Dixfield. Supper provided by Peru members. Historical society

MEXICO-The monthly meeting of the Mexico Historical Society will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 in the Calvin Lyons Room, downstairs in the Town Hall. There will be a pot luck supper. The guest speaker will be Nick Kelly, a local “Bee” keeper.

RUMFORD-The River Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the following award recipients that will be honored at the Chamber Annual Dinner and Awards Banquet April 26 at the Eagle’s Hall. RUMFORD-Help fight cancer during the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Join over two million people who are participating in Relay For Life events in over three thousand communities nationwide. Their goal: to raise money to fight the battle against cancer. The Relay for Life starts at 6 p.m on May 30 at Hosmer Field in Rumford and continues for 18 hours. Teams must keep at least one member walking around a track for the duration of the event.
