1916 – 2003
AUBURN – Lydia C. Izenstatt, 87, of 28 Wedgwood Road, died Friday, April 18, at home following a long illness.
She was born in Worcester, Mass., on Nov. 6, 1916, the only daughter and oldest of five children of Louis and Bessie Lubin Chase. She attended Wellesley College, graduating with a degree in English Literature in 1938, and married Norman Izenstatt on July 7, 1946.
She was very involved in the Lewiston-Auburn Jewish Community, in the Sisterhood at Temple Beth Jacob and its successor Temple Shalom, and was president of the Women’s League at the Jewish Community Center. She was also very involved in activities for her children, serving as a Girl Scout troop leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She traveled throughout the world with her family and with friends; she was an accomplished pianist, and loved to bake.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Norman Izenstatt of Auburn; by a daughter, Judith Ann Wise, her husband Norman, and grandson Jonathan of Danvers, Mass.; and a son, David of Portland.
