1917 – 2003

SOUTH PARIS – Tyyne (Peterson) Aho, 85, of South Paris died on Easter Sunday, April 20, at Market Square Health Care Center following a short stay there.

She was born in Ironwood, Mich., on Dec. 17, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Susanna (Makinen) Peterson. Early in her childhood she and her parents moved to Quincy, Mass., where she grew up. In September of 1955 she married Everett J. Aho of Worcester, Mass., the marriage taking place at the West Quincy Congregational Church.

Her husband, Everett worked in research and development in electronics at Lincoln Laboratory, M.I.T. in Lexington, Mass., for 28 years, after serving in the Navy in World War II. He died at their home in Bedford, Mass., in September of 1987, after a brief illness.

She graduated from Bridgewater State Teachers’ College with a B.S. in Elementary Education and received a M.E.D. from Boston University, School of Education. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, Alpha Gamma-National Honor and Professional Association in Education.

She taught for two years in Auburn, Mass., 10 years of fourth grade teaching in Quincy, Mass., and three years as assistant professor of elementary education at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. She also did some substitute teaching in the neighborhood school in Bedford, Mass.

She moved to Maine with her son, Steven Aho and his wife Ellen in 1991. She was a member of the Carlisle Congregational Church in Carlisle, Mass., since 1957. She served in many capacities, including chairman of the Missions Committee, Director of the Junior choir, and member of the adult choir.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Ellen Aho of South Paris; a stepdaughter, Susanne Lundin and her husband Rick Lundin of Hopkinton, RI; a granddaughter, Erika Lundin; a brother, Rev. Paul Peterson and his wife Evelyn of Minneapolis, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
