1923 – 2003

PORTLAND – Marjorie W. Lavoie, 79, of 39 Pine St., died Saturday, April 26 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Rumford, the daughter of Willis and Lila Whitney Wilbur. A resident of this community all of her life, she was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church and a graduate of Stephens High School in the Class of 1942. On April 23, 1944 she married Joseph D. Lavoie.

She was a member of the Mexico Historical Society, Dixfield Senior Citizens (Neighborly Senior Citizens), Rumford Senior Citizens (Seniors Plus of Rumford), and the Napoleon Ouellette Post # 24, Ladies Auxiliary. For several years she was employed in local super markets as a cashier/clerk.

She loved her family dearly and she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, baking, playing cards and monthly meetings with her high school class mates.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years; a daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Philip Dinsmore of Littleton, Mass.; two sons, David and his wife, Carol and George and his wife, Susan, all of Mexico; two sisters, Helen Whytock of Mexico and Mrs. Ed (Gert) Williams of Unity; a brother, Walter Breen of Thomaston; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Joey Lavoie.
