Firefighters in Franklin and northern Androscoggin counties were busy Monday afternoon fighting brush fires that got out of control.

Several fire departments including Livermore, Livermore Falls, Jay and Wilton responded to a brush fire that got out of control and into the woods on Fish Meadow Road.

Soon after the alert went out on that fire, firefighters from East Dixfield, Carthage and Weld responded to a fire on Goodwin Mill Road in Carthage.

Wilton firefighters had a second crew out fighting a fire at 72 Tilton Road.

And Kingfield firefighters were called out to fight a brush fire that was out of control on Ridge Road.

Several fire departments, including Farmington and Carrabassett Valley, were on standby at one time if not involved in helping fight the blazes.

All firefighters were still busy at 6 p.m. with the fires.
