TURNER – Gretchen Conn smashed a fourth inning grand slam during a nine run spurt to put the finishing touches on Leavitt’s 15-0 rout of Lawrence in softball action Wednesday.

The Hornets (7-0) received superb pitching from Sam St. Hilaire, who gave up just two hits while striking out five. The win was St. Hilaire’s seventh of the season, and her sixth shutout. Alanna Leonard contributed a double and Amy Mirand roped a triple for the Hornets in the win.

Alicia LaGrange and Kendra Bentley shared pitching duties for the Bulldogs, giving up a combined 16 hits in the loss.

Madison 8, Mt. Abram 4

MADISON – Emily French’s triple keyed a four-run sixth inning as Madison defeated Mt. Abram 8-4 in WMC softball action Wednesday. Breann Conners ripped an RBI-double for Madsion (4-0), while Danielle Stewart and Alex Solomon added two hits each. Cassidy Brann went the distance and picked up the mound win.

Megan Buxton threw six innings for Mt. Abram (1-3) and was took the loss, allowing 11 hits on the day.

Lake Region 2, Poland 0

POLAND – Danica Martin smacked an RBI-triple in the sixth inning to lift Lake Region to a 2-0 shutout win over Poland in a WMC softball matchup Wednesday. Alana Clark had reached on a double and scampered home courtesy of Martin’s big hit. Trish Shorey alowed just two hits in seven innings while posting the win on the hill.

Nicole Lovejoy went the distance for the Knights (2-2) and took the loss after allowing five hits.

Lewiston 9, Sanford 0

LEWISTON – Katie Morin drilled an RBI-double that keyed a five-run first inning for Lewiston as they handed Sanford a 9-0 loss Wednesday afternoon. Kim Bechard chipped in with a triple for the Blue Devils (5-1), while Amanda Michaud tallied a double. Shannon Godin pitched seven innings for Lewiston and earned her third win of the year.

Lacey Smith pitched four innings for Sanford (2-3) and was credited with the loss.

Livermore Falls 13, Mountain Valley 5

RUMFORD – Sandra Botka and Danielle Gray tallied RBI doubles to lead Livermore Falls to a 13-5 romp over Mountain Valley in an MVC softball matchup Wednesday. The Andies (2-1) erupted for five runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh, coming back from a 5-4 deficit after five. Cassandra Purrington allowed just five hits while earning the win.

Jamie Milledge, Kayla Stairs and Tanya Nichols led the offensive effort for the Falcons (1-2) with doubles. Kristin Nichols allowed five hits and was credited with the loss.

Jay 2, Winthrop 0

JAY – Ella Coffren cracked a double and secured an insurance run in the fourth inning to lift Jay to a 2-0 win over Winthrop in MVC softball action Wednesday.

Bre Loon notched the two-hit shutout for the Tigers (2-2) in a pitcher’s duel. Loon struck out 12 while giving up only two hits. Katie Wing allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking one for the Ramblers (1-2) in the loss.

Allyson Irish chipped in with a double for the Tigers.

McAuley 3, EL 1

PORTLAND – Cindy Goslin hit a solo home run in the second inning for the eventual game-winner as McAuley downed Edward Little 3-1 in SMAA softball action Wednesday.

The Lions (5-1) put the first run on the board in the first inning with another home run, this one off the bat of Tina Beaulieu. Following a pair of Lion runs in the second inning, Jen Verrill shut down the Red Eddies (3-2) the rest of the way.

Krista Wotherspoon tried to spark a rally in the top of the last frame with a home run, but that was all Edward Little could muster.

Dirigo 13, Carrabec 1

DIXFIELD – Angie Fenstamacher pitched a complete-game three-hitter and helped the offense by belting a home run as Dirigo swamped Carrabec 13-1 in MVC softball action Wednesday.

Jessica Blaisdell, Kaley Dailey and Ashley Stone all collected triples for the Cougars (4-1), while Amy Dolloff smacked three singles in the five-inning effort.

Oak Hill 13, Mt. View 6

THORNDIKE – Oak Hill shot out to an 8-0 lead in the second inning and held off a late Mt. View rally, upending the Mustangs 13-6 in KVAC softball action Wednesday.

Jill Lizotte, Danielle Sargent and Emily Grondin all had doubles for the Raiders (5-2). Lizotte and Sargent both went 4-for-5 on the afternoon, while Grondin finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Jenna Caler cracked two doubles for Mt. View (0-7).

Lacrosse

Gould 15, Kents Hill 5

KENTS HILL – Kate Fitzgerald tallied five goals to send Gould to a 15-5 win over Kents Hill in girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday.

Gould (5-2) managed 10 goals in the first half to set the offensive mood.

Sara Velte contributed four goals and three assists for Gould in the effort.

Kents Hill (1-2) retained all of their scoring from Stephanie Tewksbury and Ali Hurd with three and two goals, respectively.

Oxford Hills 16, Messalonskee 3

OAKLAND – Jamie Proulx rifled off six goals for Oxford Hills to assist in a 16-3 triumph over Messalonskee in girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday.

The Vikings (3-0) found the net eight times in each of the contest’s two halves.

McKayla Bell and Ashley Dyer had four and three goals, respectively.

The Eagles (0-5) kept pace with the Vikes in shots-on-goal, trailing by only three. However, Kayla Baker and Hillary Hendricks combined for 11 saves for the Vikes to Amanda Dugal’s sparse four for the Eagles.
