LEWISTON – Four different players tallied two goal each as Lewiston edged South Portland 12-11 in girls’ lacrosse action Thursday.
Marina McDonald, Kelsey Varney, Gen Lysen and Caitlin Anthoine all netted a pair of goals to lead the Blue Devils (2-3) to victory. Kate Ustach, Deneiges Labbe, Becky Tardif and Hillary Collins-Gilpatrick all recorded single goals to complete the scoring. Angie St. Hilaire turned away 13 shots while earning the win.
Kirsten Bell led South Portland (2-2) with three goals, while Lindsey Coyt added two.
Mtn. Valley 9, Morse 7
RUMFORD – Sam Johnson and Jess Allen netted three goals apiece Thursday to power Mountain Valley to a 9-7 win over Morse in girls’ lacrosse action. Jess Hanson chipped in for the Falcons (2-1) with a pair of goals, while Dianna McDonald’s single goal rounded out the final tally. Dianna Burke made 17 saves while earning the win.
Carlynn Almasi led the offensive effort for Morse (1-2) with two goals, while Megan Clow, Elsey Ponell, Abby Miller, Whitney Buonadonno tallied one goal apiece. Shelby Kaplan turned away nine shots and took the loss.
Softball
Buckfield 18, Waynflete 1
BUCKFIELD – Colleen Violette smashed a home run and a pair of triples to spark Buckfield to an 18-1 win over Waynflete in WMC softball action.
The Bucks wasted no time as they scored enough runs in the first inning to seal the victory with four.
Buckfield continued the scoring torrent with six runs in the second inning and another eight in the third. Heidi Darling and Charlee Hayes ripped a triple apiece, while Hayes also lifted a homerun.
The Flyers squeezed out a run in the third inning without the benefit of a hit. Danielle Buswell tossed the no-hitter for her second win of the season.
