The buildings were reinspected and violations were corrected.

FARMINGTON – Jaye Good-man was preparing Friday to move back into her apartment at 118 Maguire St. Firefighters had taken the locks off that building and another apartment building at 119 Lake Ave. Thursday afternoon.

She and 12 other tenants had to leave their homes at two apartment buildings owned by James Lannon of Portland after the town closed the buildings Jan. 25 for multiple fire and safety code violations.

Fire Rescue Chief Terry Bell said an inspector from the State Fire Marshal’s Office re-inspected the buildings and the violations were corrected.

A sprinkler system was put in each building, hardwired smoke detectors were installed where needed, handrails on stairs were built and fire-rated doors installed, Bell said.

Farmington Code Enforcement Officer Steve Kaiser had gone along with the inspection team. He said the buildings are much safer with the improvements the owner had done with the help of his building manager.

Goodman had left most of her stuff at the Maguire Street apartment. She had to rent another apartment while she waiting for Lannon’s to be fixed. Lannon helped her pay for rent on the apartment, she said.

“I hope to be back in my apartment in a few days,” she said.
