PARIS – A Buckfield man received two suspended sentences and four years of probation on charges of gross sexual assault and criminal restraint in a plea bargain agreement in Oxford Superior Court.

The deal was struck Thursday with Ernest Abbott, 53, who was already incarcerated with 53 months remaining on unlawful sexual contact charges.

Kennebec County District Attorney Everet Fowle said the unlawful sexual contacts occurred over a two-year period from May 15, 1992, to June 2, 1994. He said Abbott was found guilty in Kennebec County Superior Court in April of 1999 and sentenced to six years in prison with all but one year suspended and four years of probation.

Abbott, had his probation revoked on Nov. 26, 2002, for consumption of alcohol.

Abbott was sentenced on Thursday to 5 years for a gross sexual assault charge Class B and 11 months for the criminal restraint Class D charge. Both sentences were suspended and Abbott received 4 years of probation.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph O’Connor explained that Abbott faced eight years of probation after serving his 53-month term.

The latest crimes took place at Abbott’s Buckfield home on Sept. 26.
