FARMINGTON – Selectmen will discuss a proposal Monday to have social service agencies request funding from Franklin County rather than from each town.

Board members also will discuss a request for road improvements from residents on Ramsdell Road and consider several options for purchasing motor fuels for the town.

These items are among several on the agenda of the selectmen’s meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the municipal building.

A public hearing on several renewal applications for innkeeper and lunch wagon permits are the second item on the agenda.

Town Manager Richard Davis said the idea of having social service agencies request funding at the county level was introduced by Selectman Stephan Bunker and talked about during the town’s budget meetings.

Currently, social service agencies go to each town and request money from each one. This proposal would take the money out of each town’s budget and put it at the county level. The amount Farmington voters decided to raise this year for agencies was $17,740, but the amount actually requested was much higher, Davis said.

Davis said he and Bunker will meet with county commissioners at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 , to discuss the issue.
