LEWISTON – The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project will hold a vigil in memory of Billie Jo Smith at noon Tuesday, May 6, at Leeds Street Park.

Police say Smith, 22, was stabbed to death April 26 by Raymond Tripp Jr., the father of her two daughters, 2 years and 2 months old. Tripp then killed himself, police said.

“Sadly, we have had another domestic violence homicide in Lewiston. This is a tremendous loss for so many people,” said AWAP Director Chris Fenno.

“We must be aware and vigilant when it comes to domestic abuse and strive to identify ways in which we can make a difference,” Fenno said. “Above all, it is important that we recognize the loss to our community and honor Billie Jo Smith.”

Leeds Street Park is at the intersection of Pine, Leeds and Webster streets. For more information about the vigil phone the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project at 795-6744.
