Road work is schedule for several streets in Auburn and Lewiston.

Auburn crews need about another week to install a new storm sewer along Spring Street.

Auburn City Engineer Steve Ranney said crews are scheduled to wrap up the downtown project this week and begin work on Granite Street next week.

“That’ll be a big one,” Ranney said. “We’ll have to do some blasting up there. But right now, we’re concentrating on cleaning up Spring Street.”

Both projects are part of the city’s federally mandated storm sewer separation project. Ranney said the city had timed the project to meet a state paving project on Court Street from Goff Street to Park Avenue. That state project has been delayed for a year, meaning Court Street will be tied up by construction for about half the time.

“On the other side, the people that live along there will have to deal with work again next year,” he said.

Meanwhile, state crews are expected to continue work on Riverside Drive between Broad and Vickery streets.

Auburn crews are scheduled to concentrate on Youngs Corner Road and on Western Avenue between Hazel and Summit streets.

Crews also are scheduled to install curbs along Mechanics Row this week. But Ranney said he couldn’t say what day the work would begin.

“It’s tough to give really exact information about any of these projects,” Ranney said. “That’s the construction business. You can plan for the one thing, it can change at a moment’s notice because of weather or Murphy’s Law.”

In Lewiston, crews are scheduled to continue water line construction near the Public Works offices on Adams Avenue, according to Assistant Public Works Director Dave Jones. City contractors also are scheduled to work on service connections to a new storm sewer project on Webster Street.

“Most of our work is still coming,” Jones said.

Crews should begin pavement repairs along Oxford and West Bates streets next week, and begin work on the sidewalks along Lincoln Street between Chestnut Street and the canal.
