LEWISTON – Williams extended its winning streak to seven games with a pair of wins over Bates College Monday. The Ephs (25-8) handed the Bobcats (8-19) losses of 9-4 and 4-3 on the day.
In Game 1, Austin Lehn blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence to key a four-run fourth inning, sending Bates reeling. The Bobcats responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn’t get any closer. Shortstop Nate Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Bates offenseively.
In the nightcap, the Ephs staked themselves to a 3-0 lead and hung on to win 4-3 on the back of a Matthew Dahlman’s single to right field. Bates had battled back to tie the game thanks to a couple of miscues, including a balk, in the third inning.
Maxwell again led Bates, going 2-for-3.
