Plant sale

NORWAY – His Place Teen Center will hold a Mother’s Day plant and perennial sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 10, at Dr. Tere Porter’s parking lot at 66 Paris St. Donations of plants and perennials, vases or garden related items are accepted and appreciated. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the new building fund. Collection of items for the Center’s future yard sale is also being conducted. Author speaking

NORWAY – Mystery author Julia Spencer-Fleming of Portland will talk about her writing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Norway Memorial Library on Main Street. She is the author of the 2002 book “In the Bleak Midwinter” and the recently released “A Fountain Filled with Blood.” Both novels feature Episcopal priest Clare Fergusson, who is also a former Air Force chopper pilot. The setting is the small town of Miller’s Kill in the Adirondacks of upstate New York. The Rev. Fergusson’s mystery solving adventures are aided by Police Chief Russ Van Alstyne. The public is welcome to attend and is encouraged to read the books in advance of the program. Both books are available for purchase at the library. School screenings

WATERFORD – The Waterford Memorial School will hold kindergarten screening for children who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2003, from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the school. Parents or guardians should call the school to schedule a 15-minute appointment for the screening process. They should also bring their child, a copy of the birth certificate, Social Security card, current immunization record and current physical exam form. Legal guardians should bring the appropriate legal documents. Screening will include vision, hearing, speech, height and weight. Failure to present birth certificate at this time will result in an incomplete registration, and the child will not be able to enter school in the fall.
