1906 – 2003

AUBURN – Hazel Sawyer Hanson, 97, wife of the late Edward Hanson, died Jan. 19, at Clover Health Care Facility, following a long illness.

Born in Minot, Feb. 17, 1906, the daughter of Claude and Vivia Thomas Sawyer, she graduated from Gould Academy in 1925 and Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing on Sept. 15, 1929.

As a registered nurse, she worked at Hebron Academy, Hebron Sanitorium, C.M.G. Hospital, Rochester, N.H. General Hospital, Job Corp. in Poland Spring and Pineland Hospital in Pownal. She spent her life taking care of people. When any of her extended family was ill, she dropped everything to nurse them back to health. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.

Survivors include a niece, Janice Fernald of Auburn; two nephews, Norman Sawyer of Wiscasset and Malcolm Sawyer of Mechanic Falls; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hanson; three brothers, Mathias P. Sawyer, Edward F. Sawyer and infant, Max Sawyer; a sister, Louise Jackson; and two nephews, Edward P. Sawyer and Harvey Jackson.
