1928 – 2003

LEWISTON – Edith Thurlow Lowe, 75, of New Gloucester, died May 7, at CMMC Hospital surrounded by her loving family as well as several of the wonderful, compassionate staff members of the hospital, doctors, nurses, clergy and guest relations.

Born in Braintree, Mass., Feb. 12, 1928. Her entire life was one of dedication, love and pride in her family, including her siblings, children, husband and grandchildren. What she did she did with enthusiasm, dedication, and love. She fought a long courageous battle with pain and suffering for many years.

Even so she enjoyed camping, especially in the White Mountains, gardening at her home, relaxing on the porch, baking cookies with her children, having family cookouts, playing Scrabble, and writing letters. Teaching us all the how and why of many things she had experienced as a child.

For many years he was a member of our church choir, and on several occasions sang with the Portland Women’s Group and was very adept at playing the piano. She had few equals on the dance floor especially when Nate King Cole music was playing.

During somewhat later years she enjoyed short motorcycle rides with her husband and drove her own snowmobile. She belonged to the local snowmobile club, Evening Extension, worked at Motor-Supply, and was hardworking homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roy Lowe, they were married in 1953; three children, Valerie Lowe Clement, Randall Lowe, and Scott Lowe and his wife Nancy; grandmother of six, Travis, Benjamin, Chris, Jonathan, Heather,and Michelle; four sisters, Virginia Hopkins, Emily Smith, Marilyn Farrington, Jeanne Waterman; one brother; Frank Thurlow.
