Four cars were stolen between midnight Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in Greene, Leeds and Sabattus, according to an official from the Androscoggin County Sheriffs Department.

Three of the cars were recovered unharmed shortly after they were stoien, but the fourth – a maroon Buick Skylark taken from the IGA parking lot in Greene – was still missing Sunday night.

Police believe the rash of thefts are connected and have at least two suspects but there have been no arrests.

All of the recovered cars were unlocked with the keys left inside the vehicles, according to Sgt. James Jacques of the sheriffs department.

“We’re definitely warning people to take their keys inside and lock their cars in that area,” said Jacques.

A similar spree of car thefts went unsolved last fall in the Lewiston-Auburn area, but officials did not know if the cases were linked. Last year, each of the six vehicles stolen were destroyed.
