Recent letters to the editor about the state of our economy seem to be taking on a decidedly “right wing conservative mode.” I call it the “Rush Limbaugh, ditto head, parrot talk.” Another label could well be “Southern conservative ‘Jimmy Swaggert’ type gullibles.”

Enough is enough. It’s time for these gullible right wingers to answer a few simple questions.

1. What was the deficit when Ronald Reagan left office? Three trillion dollars, the largest ever up to that time.

2. What was the state of the economy at the end of Bush No. 1’s term? Highest unemployment in years with the deficit getting larger.

3. What was the state of the economy at the end of Clinton’s term? Low unemployment, budget surplus for the first time in years and the national debt in sight of being paid off.

4. What is the state of the economy after 2 1/2 years of Bush No. 2? High unemployment, deficit spending at an all time high, a $6.5 trillion national debt, the budget surplus gone and the very survival of this country in jeopardy due to his arrogant stance toward all those we once had as allies.

Any normal reasonable person should be able to put numbers 1, 2 and 4 together and, with a little innovation, come up with the solution.

It’s No. 3 stupid!
